Top 7 Europe’s most surreal places you must see to believe

top100travelplaces - You can find some incredible things while taking a vacation throughout Europe. But if you’re willing to go for a trek on those roads less traveled, you’ll find yourself visiting some surreal places. Just one look at the destinations below will make you a believer.

1. Plitvice Lake National Park – Croatia

Plitvice Lake National Park

Croatia’s largest national park is also one of the first natural sites classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it’s easy to see why. The park’s 16 lakes are situated in a way that they seemingly cascade off of one another, creating waterfalls that blend grays, greens and blues effortlessly.

2. Trolltunga – Hordaland, Norway

Trolltunga – Hordaland

Trolltunga – a.k.a. Troll’s Tongue – is one of the more popular spots in Norway. Sitting almost 2,300 feet above Ringedalsvatnet lake, Trolltunga juts out for an incredible view of the water and the surrounding mountains. And it doesn’t hurt that you can take some killer photos yourself while checking it out.

3. Point du Hoc, France

Point du Hoc

Just standing atop this cliff overlooking the English Channel on France’s northern coast is enough to drop your jaw. But actually being able to trek through numerous craters left by bombs during World War II is extremely humbling.

4. Crystal Caves – Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland

Crystal Caves

A trip to Iceland’s Vatnajökull National Park will get you to this trippy destination. These caves are created by water or geothermal heat moving through the glacier. No two tunnels are the same in how they’re shaped inside the glacier, but they all have walls made of ice that feature a gorgeous blue glow when sunlight penetrates the cave.

5. Blue Lagoon – Grindavik, Iceland

Blue Lagoon

Another surreal spot in Iceland? Oh, yes. The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa that’s heated by a natural hot water spring near a lava flow (yes, lava), while silicate creates that blue coloring. Easy to see why it’s one of the world’s most visited attractions, yes?

6. Tulip fields – Netherlands

Tulip fields

We know the Netherlands are famous for tulip fields, but it doesn’t stop us from being completely gobsmacked the moment we see one of them in person. To get that same colorful sight in person we recommend visiting in April to see the tulips bloom.

7. Ice Canyon – Greenland

Ice Canyon

What happens when you have the ocean run through a glacier? One of the most stunning sights anyone will find anywhere. The deep blue ocean water really creates a striking contrast against the white of the ice. Almost makes you forget that Greenland has its own Grand Canyon hiding underneath the ice sheet, or that the country is technically a part of North America. Almost.
